FTP Overview

Back

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is an internet standard protocol for transferring files from one location to another. Normally this is used to move files from your computer to a server, or in reverse. FTP enables you to easily update your website files using a client specifically designed to work with the FTP protocol.

Want to connect to your website via FTP but don’t know how to configure your FTP program to connect? We have got you covered as we have over 10 setup guides for the most popular FTP softwares out there. Click here to view these guides.

If you are interested in using sFTP rather then FTP, please open a support ticket.

Connection Details

You will need the login credentials for the account you wish to connect to. To connect to the primary (main) FTP account, you will need to locate the credentials that were sent to you via email when you first signed up for a ExColo service. Normally the subject line for this email would read as follows…

Welcome New [Service] ([Location]) Customer!

…for example…

Welcome New Host + FTP (xxx) Customer!

You will then find the login details under the FTP Information section.
